Dates: 21st & 22nd April 2018
My name is Raveena Saravanan, currently, I am perusing my dream as a third year MBBS student in our Prestigious Xiamen University. It’s a great pleasure to share my experience of 2 days trip for Foreigner’s Photograph activity in Xiamen, which was co-organised by Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Xiamen Municipal Government, Xiamen People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, (XMPAFFC), Xiamen Federation of literary and Art Circles.
We successfully started our trip with the help of our Professors (Dr.David, Dr.Bipin, Dr.Maxwell, Dr.Prakash Rai), Mam’s (Mrs.Kathy, Ms.Andy xue) and us (the Union leaders of Medical College Xiamen University). With Stunning beaches, a rich culture, ancient heritage buildings and majestic temples, Xiamen, where Gulangyu Island is locate, will always be one of the World’s most enthralling destinations. We were lucky to start our trip on the wonderful Gulangyu Island and captured amazing moments on the top of the Sunlight Rock. From the Nanputuo (South Putuo Temple), where the Ximen University was adjacent, we started the afternoon’s trip. The first day successfully ended with static and dynamic captured moments at Xiamen University Main Campus.
On second day (22.04.2018) we started with Aquatic sports centre, Jimei Lake and explored the beautiful places with the help of the organizers. The description of the most incredible places, given by the organizer with the help of motion vehicles was very interesting and also very informative. The bluish lake and the wandering of small kids throughout just reminded of our childhood days. Dragonboat Lake, Jimei School Village, Turtle Garden and Chen Jiageng Memorial Hall were magnificent places and we enjoyed well.
By this trip, we got a good exposure, interaction, powerful knowledge, stress free and an informative experience. I am very grateful to the organizers who have spent a lot of efforts in organizing such a great event to bring our heart closer to Xiamen. My thanks are beyond words.
SEE XIAMEN AFTER BRICS
Dates: 21st & 22nd April 2018
My name is Shiwani Sharma, a medical student at XMU, one of the most beautiful and competent universities in China, and I’ve been in Xiamen for the past 3years. As a part of medical college, I’ve had a lot of exposure and experience but the two days’ event-See Xiamen After BRICS, is by far, the best.
In the past two days, I’ve been part of group of students from different colleges in Xiamen which went around Xiamen (Gulangyu, Nanputao temple, XMU, Jimei) to click pictures and look at the progress Xiamen has made since the time of BRICS 2017.
Xiamen has always been beautiful, that being said, I didn’t really think that there’s much left that I’ve not seen. The first place we visited was the Sunlight Rock on Gulangyu Island. It is said to be one of the places a person must go if he or she visits Xiamen which is true because the view we got from the highest point at Gulangyu is ecstatic since it shows the historically preserved island and the modern city of Xiamen divided by ocean, which looks amazing.
Next we went to the Nanputuo Temple for lunch. As a vegetarian person, I do not really get a lot of options to eat in China, but at the temple, all the food was vegetarian with the lotus dish and sweet made of yam being my favourite. After that we visited Xiamen University and got to know about the founder Tan Kah Kee and the accomplishments its alumni have made over time.
On Sunday, we went to Jimei and visited the Jimei lake which looked beautiful in the morning hue. A place where 20 km diameter area was dedicated to preserving the stork mostly used to depict Xiamen CBD, China’s biggest photo studio and library (3shadows) – they are going to have an exhibition on 28th April, technological park, botanical garden and a crescent moon momento which lights up in the night sky. At the end, we finished our two adventures with a seaside view of Jimei bridge, supposed to be one of the longest bridges in the world.
It was tiring to go around all the places for two consecutive days but the memories I made are nothing compared to tiredness. I am thankful to the Municipal corporation of Xiamen (organizers of the event) and my teachers for this amazing opportunity to see Xiamen in a new light.
A Trip of Healing
——SEE XIAMEN AFTER BRICS
Dates: 21st & 22nd April 2018
3rd year MBBS student
Medical College Xiamen University
21st April 2018 is an unforgettable day on which I started my first school trip to my dream destination-Gulangyu Island with my friends and teachers in this See Xiamen After BRICS program organized by three institutions in Xiamen, namely, Foreign and Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Xiamen Municipal Government, Xiamen People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, (XMPAFFC), Xiamen Federation of literary and Art Circles. When we reached Lundu Dock, the place from where we are going to take the ferry to Gulangyu, I met the program organizers and 20 other photographers. I could feel their friendliness when they communicated with us. As we arrived on the island, I was immediately enchanted by the beauty of this island, the twists and turns, the buildings, the food, the pearls. “Such a beauty she was!”
I clicked many photos on the way. As we got near the foot heel of the famous Sunlight Rock, lots of people, who all came to enjoy their weekend here with their families, joined and climbed along with us. Seeing their happy faces made me feel happy. At that time, I missed my family very much. I hoped that they were by my side to enjoy the refreshing wind, the happiness among the Chinese people, the great healing time when I was far away from home.
My feelings were eased when I and my friends roamed around the island, seeing many local people and their lifestyles, taking photos and trying out things to eat. The things we ate on the island were just appetizers, we satiated a meal of vegetarian food in Nanputuo Temple along with the Chinese company. We tried few Chinese when we exchanged the feelings on Gulangyu Island. The next stop is the main campus, Xiamen University. The beauty of the campus never failed to amaze me.
This program helped me to recharge myself because I was feeling lonely, homesick, and unable to focus on studies before. I talked with my friends, teachers and people who were complete strangers. I was able to see different people, able to capture their feelings. This program helped me realize the meaning of life, my goal of studying MBBS in China. It was a wonderful trip to Xiamen’s beauty, a trip of energy, a trip of inspiration and a trip of hope.
