Healing through Qi and Earth

Nestled within the serene surroundings of Xiamen University's Xiang'an Campus lies the Chinese Medicine Garden, a living testament to the rich legacy and contemporary significance of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This garden is more than just a collection of plants; it is a vibrant hub that embodies the intricate history of botanical medicine in China, where networks of wildcrafters, growers, buyers, sellers, processers, medicine makers, pharmacies, and practitioners have thrived for centuries. In the contemporary landscape, this heritage is further enriched by the inclusion of hospitals, exporters, and scientists, all contributing to the evolution of TCM.

Our class had the privilege of immersing ourselves in this timeless tradition, guided by the principles and practices that have stood the test of time. The garden is a treasure trove of therapeutic plants, with an impressive variety that includes mint, aloe vera, roses, Jasmina sambac, Rosa chinensis Jacq, Dendranthema morifolium, and Canna indica, among others. These plants, each with their unique medicinal properties, paint a vivid picture of the harmony between nature and human wellness.

Under the expert tutelage of our professors, we unraveled the mysteries of these botanical treasures. We discovered the anti-inflammatory properties of Canna indica, the antioxidant-rich Dendranthema morifolium, and the soothing effects of Jasmina sambac. Rosa chinensis Jacq, with its deep roots in TCM, showcased the profound relationship between plants and human health.

Beyond its educational value, the Chinese Medicine Garden offers a peaceful retreat from the rigors of academic life. It is a sanctuary where we could practice mindfulness and engage in introspection, surrounded by the therapeutic beauty of nature.

The Chinese Medicine Garden at our campus is not just a garden; it is a living library that speaks volumes about the enduring wisdom of TCM. This enchanting oasis has sparked in us a deep respect for the ancient art of healing, leaving an indelible mark on our academic journey.
