Indian Media Delegation Visits Xiamen University School of Medicine: Deepening China-India Educational Cooperation and Cultural Exchange

On 26th April 2025, Indian media delegation led by Consul Zhang Zhizhong of the Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata visited School of Medicine, Xiamen University. The aim of this visit is to further strengthen educational exchanges and cultural understanding between China and India by having an insight into Indian students studying medicine and living in China. CGTN and China Daily reporters were present accompanying the delegation on this visit.

The delegation first went to the Clinical Skills Training Center of Xiamen University School of Medicine, where they visited several teaching facilities within this center. The journalists and Indian students engaged in a cordial conversation that was friendly and touching. Indian students shared their personal experiences of studying medicine and adapting to campus life in China.

The students introduced to the delegations the basic settings and experimental operations of the medical testing course, including how to perform basic medical testing operations such as blood analysis and pathogen detection through the experimental equipment in daily study.

They also visited the Surgery Simulation Operating Room, where the students introduced to the press corps in detail the pre-surgical sterilization process, simulated surgical training and the internship arrangements carried out in cooperation with the hospital. The students also introduced in detail the basic skill operations such as surgical suturing and explained how to enhance clinical skills through simulated teaching and actual operation.

Other skills training classroom that the students showed the delegation include cardiopulmonary, abdominal, auscultation and palpation skills training classroom. Students presented their comprehensive medical knowledge through explaining how to conduct a comprehensive examination of patients through auscultation and palpation. The students interacted with the delegation through giving the delegation opportunities to personally experience the sensation of simulated heartbeat sounds.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) an important skill that healthcare professionals used. In the Clinical Skills Training Center, there is the First Aid Stimulation Training Room. Students introduced and explain the theory and practical skills of first aid. They demonstrated key skills of compression position, time control, depth and frequency. The students invited the delegation to have a hands-on experience.

After the visit to the Clinical Skills Training Center, a discussion session was held in the conference room of Aili North Building of Xiamen University. Liu Wanyu, Deputy Director of Xiamen University's International Cooperation and Exchange Office, hosted the seminar. Mr. Jiang Yuta, Chief of Admission Office of Xiamen University, firstly introduced the overall situation of the university, and then Mr. Li Wei, Associate Dean of the School of Medicine, explained to the delegation in detail the cultivation of international students from India as well as the characteristics and development of the MBBS program.

During the symposium, representatives of the Indian press delegation had in-depth discussions on the current situation of Chinese medical education, changes in the policy of Indian medical students studying abroad, and expressed great concern about the prospects of Sino-Indian cooperation in the field of medical education.

The visit not only provided the Indian media delegation with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Chinese medical education, but also laid a solid foundation for promoting mutual understanding and cooperation between China and India in education and culture. Xiamen University School of Medicine will continue to uphold an open and cooperative attitude, and is committed to promoting more international exchanges and cooperation programs to further deepen the cooperation with India and other countries in the field of medical education.
