Student Life
My time as a student was truly unforgettable. I formed lasting friendships with both Chinese and international peers. Although learning Chinese was initially challenging, it proved to be a rewarding experience. I was fortunate enough to secure third place during my first academic year. The university offered a mentor system, where one mentor was assigned to every three students, ensuring that we received personalized guidance and support. Our teachers, who were not only highly qualified but also experienced medical doctors, had received training in Western countries, enhancing the quality of our education.
During my first three years of medical school, I performed at an average level. However, as I approached my final year, I became more focused on achieving a strong performance in both my final exams and the Indian licensing examination. My teachers played a pivotal role in assisting me with exam preparation, for which I remain deeply grateful.
Post-FMGE Journey (INDIAN MEDICAL LICENSING EXAM)
My dedication and hard work bore fruit when I successfully passed the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) on my first attempt. I subsequently completed my internship in India, while some of my peers pursued theirs at Zhongshan Hospital and the No. 1 Hospital in Xiamen, where they gained substantial exposure and hands-on surgical experience.
Following this, my ambition was to pursue postgraduate studies in India, with a focus on surgery. I was ultimately accepted into the ophthalmology program. In 2014, I secured a merit position in the highly competitive entrance examination and completed my residency in Tamil Nadu. Throughout this period, I acquired extensive knowledge and expertise in the field of ophthalmology.
Post-Residency Career
Upon completing my residency, I worked as a medical officer for one year to gain further practical experience. Following this, I took on the role of junior consultant in my home province of Andhra Pradesh. Currently, I serve as a consultant specializing in Phaco-refractive surgery (PHACOEMULSIFICATION).
During this period, I have trained colleagues and junior ophthalmologists in a range of surgical procedures. In addition, I am the coordinator for a postgraduate institute and serve as the primary point of contact for the National Board of Examinations at our institution. I also hold the position of official trainer for Help Me See, a U.S.-based non-profit organization that offers simulation-based surgical training for young ophthalmologists and residents.
Since the beginning of my residency, I have performed approximately 5,000 small incision cataract surgeries, more than 6,000 phacoemulsification procedures, and numerous complex cataract and refractive surgeries.
